NOBLESSE OBLIGE

Noblesse Oblige - A concept paper for a development company for emerging economies

Purpose

The purpose of Noblesse Oblige is to create for-profit companies and joint ventures in emerging economies around the world so that:

  • Its investors may see attractive and sustainable gross margins,
  • Countries may see the needs of its people met at minimal public costs,
  • Ties between entrepreneurs in the US and emerging economies can be established and strengthened, and,
  • Meaningful jobs and profits can be created in both the US and emerging economies.

The name Noblesse Oblige comes from the medieval concept that those who are blessed have an obligation to help meet the needs of others.  In order to avoid any sense of superiority, the process of Noblesse Oblige is to partner with those needing help so that the "helped" can also become helpers.

Method of Development

The method of Noblesse Oblige is to create companies, joint ventures, or projects and lend its staff to act as project managers, general managers, or initial joint venture staff. By launching the ventures in this way, Noblesse Oblige will add enough value so that it can collect normal and customary management fees and equity positions in each of its projects to make it possible to reach and exceed its gross margin targets.

Noblesse Oblige will seek to work with the best companies in a given business arena, along with credible and strong local partners, so that its choices of projects will be shown to be reasonable because of peer review and investment by those who are considered the best at their business. The combination of strong local partners, strategic services, and intended long-term growth is essential for the protection of joint venture assets in high-risk environments.

The core management and staff of Noblesse Oblige will consist of at least one project generator/ CEO, one CFO, one project writer, one contracts and cost analyst, and one administrative assistant. Additional staff will be brought on as projects are created whose fees will support additional staff as required by the business case of the given project.

As projects develop, a local Noblesse Oblige office will be established in the countries where the joint ventures will be developed so that projects can be expedited with local partners.

Types of Businesses and Joint Ventures Developed by Noblesse Oblige

Companies that Noblesse Oblige seeks to develop are those that provide essential or strategic services and products for an emerging economy and related support services to nurture developing partnerships. Strategic services include telecommunications, alternative energy projects, or manufacturing that would lead to exports and the attraction of foreign currency. Mr. Manto has several projects in development that can be contributed to the proprietary deal flow that Noblesse Oblige will create. These include projects that will make use of his most recent patents issued September 2001-2004.

Local offices in prospective emerging economies that would facilitate communications between prospective partners would provide support services. Many business practices in emerging economies require in-person discussions in order to ensure relatively speedy next steps. Having staff in local offices in remote areas can be essential in meeting business plan and development goals. Investment and support of these services would be within the scope of Noblesse Oblige activities.
